Candidate Statement
I chose Butte County as my home over 20 years ago. I am raising my son in Butte County because it is a special place to live. I want to preserve its beauty and legacy for future generations.
As a professional counselor, mediator, and executive, I have focused my professional life on issues surrounding housing, homelessness, substance use, and justice reform. In 2012, I was elected to Chico City Council. I worked diligently to address the city's budget deficits and to pass policy that protected the tax payer’s hard-earned money. Within two years, the city was out of debt and building general fund reserves. I continually supported responsible land use planning and strong public safety services. I voted for evidence-based housing policy, for increasing our park and tree crews, and environmental policy.
I have the skills and experience necessary to broker reasonable solutions to difficult problems. I will work collaboratively with county and city partners to create open and accessible government. I will work hard to increase housing, guard our water resources, and protect our valuable agricultural land. I am endorsed by Maureen Kirk, current District 3 Supervisor.
The past three years as your D3 representative have been spent responding to the Campfire, the North Complex Fire, the Spillway breach, and setting proactive policy to facilitate the recovery of Butte County. I have initiated and had passed local ordinances for free green waste disposal to remove fuel from out Wildland Urban Interface. I serve as the Chair of or Air Quality Management District, Chair of the Passages Adult Resource Board, as the Board Representative to the Behavioral Health Advisory Board, the Juvenile Justice Oversight Board, First 5 Commissioner, The Continuum of Care Homeless and Housing Board, and an active member of the Forest Ranch and Cohasset Fire Safe Councils.
